This course aims at introducing students to some cutting edge topics of private law common to different legal systems in order to understand their theoretical backgrounds as well as thier technical and political implications at a global scale.

- to critically discuss global approaches to the law;

- critically apporach to cutting edge topics in family and property law in a comparative perspective

- to describe interactions between national and supranational legal actors.

Programma

The course will examine cutting-edge topics in private law, with particular reference to property law and urban spaces (squatting, anti-gentrification strategies, and urban commons), family law (surrogacy, LGBTQI+ rights, queer theory, etc.), as well as other key issues such as climate change and new technologies, and their interaction with private law in a globalized world.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

In-class, open-book essay written on paper. Throughout the course, materials relevant to each lesson will be uploaded on Moodle. Students are expected to read and engage with these materials as they progress through the course.

During the exam, students are allowed to consult all course materials provided throughout the semester, including printed materials and personal notes (for those who attended classes). The essay topic will be broad enough to allow students to develop their argument based on their own perspectives, sensitivities, and background.

The primary goal of the exam is to demonstrate familiarity with the course texts and the ability to engage critically with them. To support students, two copies of the printed materials will be made available in the exam room for consultation.
