Obiettivi formativi
The aim of the course is to introduce students to an adequate knowledge of the notion of criminal proceedings and of the principles that characterize it from an European perspective.

At the end of the course students will be asked to:
- demonstrate an appropriate knowledge of principles of the criminal proceedings and of the european criminal procedural law
- understand and use properly legal therminology related to criminal procedure
- be able to relate the concepts learned to practical cases

Programma
After an introduction to the criminal procedural law (legal families, scope of criminal trial, adversarial systems), the focus will be on:
- parties and judges: roles, powers, duties
- legal sources of the criminal procedural law
- right to process, rights in the process, in the perspective of ECtHR case-law and EU law
- judicial and police cooperation in the European Union

Modalità di insegnamento
Traditional lecturing, with the analysis of case-law and law acts. During the lectures, slides will be screened.
All learning materials are available through Campusnet (at the bottom of this page, button "Materiale didattico"). Registration (at the bottom of this page, button "Registrati a questo insegnamento") is therefore essential in order to consult these materials.
Attendance is obviously the best way to learn the contents of the course, but no specific bonus are provided for attending students.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
The exam will consist of a written test composed of fifteen multiple-choice questions (25 points) and one open-ended question (6 points). The test lasts 30 minutes.
The exam will be held in person.
The sum of the points, the recording of the marks in the digital minute and the correspondence between mark and candidate are at least double-checked. Emails asking for a generic "revision" of the mark or a check on the correct recording of the mark will not be answered.
