Diploma Law and Technology

 

Il Diploma di “Law and Technology” offre agli studenti la possibilità di acquisire una specializzazione certificata sul modello degli “academic minor” statunitensi. L’offerta formativa del Diploma combina lo studio dei fondamenti scientifici dei processi di innovazione tecnologica e l’acquisizione di competenze di base rispetto all’argomentazione giuridica e all’interazione tra diritto e tecnologia. Infatti, le società odierne dipendono sempre più dalle information and communication technologies (ICT) e dall'informazione come risorsa vitale. La crescente capacità di elaborazione di dati, e dei c.d. big data, non sta solo rimodellando le funzioni essenziali delle società attuali, come i servizi governativi, i sistemi di trasporto e comunicazione, i processi aziendali o le reti di produzione e distribuzione di energia. La rivoluzione dell'informazione sta influenzando la nostra comprensione del mondo e di noi stessi. Il diritto, inteso come tecnica che regola altre tecniche, funge da fondamentale strumento di governo di questi nuovi e crescenti fenomeni rispetto ai quali soffre spesso di un ritardo concettuale o applicativo.

Una delle sfide cruciali del diritto in una società dell'informazione consiste nell’istituzione di un rapporto biunivoco con le ICT per una interazione reciproca, ma soprattutto nell’identificazione dei modi in cui gli strumenti di regolamentazione della tecnologia possono essere sfruttati incorporando i vincoli normativi nella progettazione degli spazi (progettazione ambientale), o degli oggetti (progettazione del prodotto), o dei messaggi (progettazione della comunicazione), in modo da rispettare le regole ed i principi fondanti le società contemporanee.

Il Diploma è radicato nel corso di laurea in European Legal Studies (ELS) ed è concepito come un’opportunità curricolare per gli studenti iscritti a ELS, ma è altresì aperto a studenti dei corsi di laurea che contribuiscono, con i loro insegnamenti, al Diploma.

The "Law and Technology" Diploma offers students the opportunity to acquire a certified specialization on the model of the American "academic minor". The Diploma combines the study of the scientific foundations of technological innovation processes and the acquisition of basic skills with respect to legal argumentation and the interaction between law and technology. Indeed, today's societies are increasingly dependent on information and communication technologies (ICT) and information as a vital resource. The growing capacity of data processing, and of the so-called big data is not just reshaping the essential functions of today's societies, such as government services, transportation and communication systems, business processes, or energy production and distribution networks. The information revolution is affecting our understanding of the world and of ourselves. Law, understood as a technique that regulates other techniques, acts as a fundamental instrument for governing these new and growing phenomena with respect to which it often suffers from a conceptual or applicative delay.

One of the crucial challenges of law in an information society consists in establishing a one-to-one relationship with ICTs for reciprocal interaction, but above all in identifying the ways in which the regulatory tools of technology can be exploited by incorporating regulatory constraints in the design of spaces (environmental design), or objects (product design), or messages (communication design), in order to respect the rules and principles founding contemporary societies.

The Diploma is rooted in the Degree in “European Legal Studies” (ELS) and is conceived as a curricular opportunity for students enrolled in ELS, but it is also open to students of the other degrees who contribute, with their teachings, to the Diploma.

Regola di conseguimento del Diploma a partire dall’A.A. 2023/2024

Il conseguimento del diploma presuppone alternativamente di:

  • aver positivamente sostenuto tre corsi del Diploma e avere acquisito almeno tre (3) crediti per seminari;
  • avere positivamente sostenuto due corsi del Diploma e avere acquisito almeno cinque (5) crediti per seminari.

I crediti per seminari del Diploma non corrispondono ai CFU, e sono attribuiti nel seguente modo:

  • seminario di almeno 6 ore: 1 credito;
  • seminario di almeno 12 ore: 2 crediti;
  • seminario di almeno 20 ore: 3 crediti.

Ai fini del conseguimento del Diploma ciascun seminario deve essere frequentato integralmente.

Per il conseguimento del Diploma plus (with distinction) è necessaria una attività extra consistente nella redazione di un research paper sulla base del seminario o del workshop frequentato e supervisionato dal professore che ha condotto l’attività.

Non è previsto un numero massimo di studenti ammessi al Diploma, né una data di inizio o di fine di ciascun percorso individuale. Eventuali limitazioni del numero di studenti potranno essere predisposte per la partecipazione a seminari e/o workshop che lo richiederanno.
L’eventuale selezione in caso di domanda eccedente il numero massimo avverrà sulla base di:

  • curriculum vitae
  • cursus studiorum

Gli/le studenti che intendono conseguire il Diploma sono tenuti a iscriversi utilizzando il seguente formulario di iscrizione.

Una volta frequentate tutte le attività necessarie al conseguimento del Diploma e sostenuti gli esami previsti, gli/le studenti potranno ricevere l’attestato del Diploma rivolgendosi al diplomalat@unito.it e producendo la documentazione richiesta secondo le seguenti
indicazioni:

  • le finestre per il rilascio dei diplomi sono febbraio e settembre;
  • la richiesta per il diploma va presentata tra l’1 e il 20 di febbraio o di settembre allegando: 1) l’elenco delle attività svolte al fine dell’ottenimento del diploma; 2) l’autocertificazione degli esami scaricabile dal proprio my-unito.

Lo/la studente che abbia la necessità di integrare il proprio piano di corsi e seminari per l’ottenimento del Diploma con attività non rientranti nell’Offerta Didattica, può presentare una proposta preliminare del proprio piano rivolgendosi al diplomalat@unito.it in corrispondenza delle finestre per il rilascio dei diplomi.

Rule for obtaining the Diploma starting from the A.Y. 2023/2024

The achievement of the diploma presupposes alternatively:

  • to have positively acquired at least five (5) seminars credits and attended two courses of the Diploma;
  • to have positively acquired at least three (3) seminars credits and attended three courses of the Diploma.

The credits for seminars of the Diploma do not correspond to CFU, and are attributed as follows:

  • seminar of at least 6 hours: 1 credit;
  • seminar of at least 12 hours: 2 credits;
  • seminar of at least 20 hours: 3 credits.

In order to obtain the Diploma, each seminar must be attended in its entirety.
For the achievement of the Diploma plus (with distinction) an extra activity is required consisting in the drafting of a research paper based on a seminar or workshop attended and supervised by the professor who conducted the activity.

There is no maximum number of students admitted to the Diploma, nor a start or end date for each individual path. Any limitation on the number of students may be set up for participation in seminars and/or workshops that require it.
Any selection in the event of an application exceeding the maximum number will be based on:

  • curriculum vitae
  • cursus studiorum

Students wishing to achieve the Diploma are required to register using the following registration form

Once they have attended all the activities necessary for obtaining the Diploma and taken the required exams, students will be able to receive the certificate of the Diploma by contacting diplomalat@unito.it and producing the required documentation according to the following indications:

  • the windows for issuing degrees are February and September.
  • the request for the diploma must be submitted between 1st and 20th February or September attaching: 1) the list of activities carried out in order to obtain the diploma; 2) the self-certification of the exams that can be downloaded from your my-unit.

The student who needs to integrate his/her plan of courses and seminars to obtain the Diploma with activities not included in the Offerta Didattica, can submit a preliminary proposal of his/her plan by contacting diplomalat@unito.it in correspondence with the windows for the issuing of diplomas.
