Obiettivi formativi
The course aims to develop an understanding of the criminological perspectives on globalization, and crime control. At the end of the course, students will have obtained knowledge of the most central debates, questions, and ideas that have shaped contemporary understanding of globalization within criminology.
Students will develop, among others, an understanding of:
- Globalization as a phenomenon, as well as a number of controversies raised by the term.
- The multiple ways in which global inequality shapes contemporary crime control strategies.
- The crime in the global cities.
- The dynamics of globalisation towards mobility, migration, organised crime, environmental crime.
- The changing role of State sovereignty under conditions of globalization.
- The issue of security and its perceptions.

- Knowledge and understanding: Students should show they are familiar with the most central debates, questions, and ideas that have shaped contemporary understanding of globalization within criminology.
- Applying knowledge and understanding: Students should be able to interpret, analyze and critically discuss the acquired knowledge on contemporary issues and controversies on crime and globalisation
- Making judgment: Students should be able to formulate and reflect on their own ideas about crime, social harm, security and justice.
- Communication skills: Students should be able to listen to the lesson actively, intervening, and asking questions and must be able to express themselves clearly, effectively, and appropriately according to the audience.
- Learning skills: Students should be able to study independently.
