Obiettivi formativi
The course aims to develop an understanding of the criminological perspectives on globalization, and crime control.
This year's course will focus on how border control in times of globalization is driving significant changes in the fields of criminal justice, punishment, sovereignty, and membership within continuously evolving and increasingly complex societies.
At the end of the course, students will be expected to be able to analyse the mechanisms of power that subtend the processes of illegalization, detention, deportation, refusal, and criminalization of migrants. The perspective developed in the course embraces a critical approach and considers law, policies, and discourses as entrenched factors in driving the mechanisms of border control.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
At the end of the course, students are expected to achieve the following learning outcomes:
-
Knowledge and understanding: Students will demonstrate a deep understanding of criminological perspectives on globalization and crime control, particularly in relation to the mechanisms of border control and the criminalization of migrants. They will engage with key debates on how globalization is reshaping criminal justice, punishment, sovereignty, and membership.
-
Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to critically analyze and interpret the processes of illegalization, detention, deportation, refusal, and criminalization of migrants. They will apply this knowledge to contemporary global contexts, considering how law, policy, and discourse influence these mechanisms.
-
Making judgments: Students will be able to develop and articulate their own critical reflections on the power dynamics underlying border control. They will assess the broader social, legal, and political implications of criminalizing migration and controlling borders.
-
Communication skills: Students will actively engage in class discussions, asking thoughtful questions and contributing insights. They will communicate their ideas clearly and effectively, demonstrating an ability to present complex arguments in both written and oral form, adapting to different audiences.
-
Learning skills: Students will demonstrate the ability to work independently, conduct research, and critically engage with academic texts and policy documents. They will be able to synthesize diverse perspectives and apply them to current debates on crime control and globalization.
