The course aims at analysing basic principles of private law and in particular, property law, tort law, contract law and the unjust enrichment.The study will be based on a comparative approach, taking into consideration the historical evolution of private law institutions in both the civil law and the common law tradition.

At the end of the course, students will be able to describe the essential institutions of private law and to solve simple legal problems in the fields analysed.

Lectures with assignments.

Because of the suspension of face-to-face lessons from March 2nd to March 15th in all university venues, including extra-metropolitan ones, we have provided a distance learning solution.

Students of Principles of Private Law must enroll in the Moodle page of the course where they will find slides, video materials and assignments about the arguments of these two weeks.

Students are urged to look up and study all the files they will find.

The knowledge of all these materials is necessary for the continuation of the course and will be tested when the face-to-face lessons will start again.

Written exam with three open-ended questions.

The study of the textbook J. Gordley, Foundations of Private Law is mandatory. During the course, papers, assignments and extra materials will be provided and discussed in class.
