Obiettivi formativi

The objective of the course is to provide the conceptual and analytical tools as well as the capacity to understand the causes, mechanisms and consequences of the economic globalization, and, in particular, the determinants of international trade, the objectives and instruments of trade policy at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels, the role of multinational enterprises and foreign direct investment, the international monetary and financial architecture, the genesis and effects of the global financial crisis and the difficulties of the European Monetary Union.

The student should gain good knowledge of the topics covered during the course and be able to use the tools acquired.

Lectures will use PowerPoint presentations, which will be made available on the course website, in order to help students  identify the most important topics.

 During the course, meetings with experts and seminars on students' research papers will be organized.

All lectures will be delivered in English.

The modalities mentioned below are not valid during the COVID-19 emergency situation.Please read instructions in the "Note" section.

The final exam will be both written and oral. The oral is optional for the students who passed the written examination with a score of at least 18/30. It is compulsory for those whose score was between 15 and 17. In the orals, students can improve, but not worsen, the results of the written examination, up to a maximum of 3 points.

 Attending students can gain up to 4 additional points by writing an individual or group research paper, which is optional, although strongly recommended.

  6. Multilateral and regional trade agreements: the World Trade Organization
  7. Multinational enterprises and foreign direct investment 
  8. Balance of payments and exchange rate determination
  9. The international monetary system the global financial crisis, 2007-2012 and the role of the International Monetary Fund
  10. Optimal currency areas,  the euro and the problems of the European Monetary Union

THE EXAM SCHEDULED FOR 9 JULY 2020  WILL BE TAKEN IN ORAL ONLINE MODE. DETAILS FOR ACCESS TO THE PLATFORM WILL BE COMMUNICATED BY EMAIL TWO DAYS BEFORE THE EXAM.

THE EXAM SCHEDULED FOR 18 SEPTEMBER 2020 WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE IN ORAL MODE BUT FACE-TO-FACE. HOWEVER, STUDENTS RESIDING OUTSIDE THE PIEDMONT REGION OR ABROAD MAY CHOOSE THE DISTANCE MODALITY BY SENDING AN EMAIL TO THE TEACHER AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION.
