Obiettivi formativi

This course aim to analyze some of the most important concepts of our juridical culture, as they have been formalized at the XVIII century, in order to discuss the various philosophical theories presented and encourage a better understanding of our time.

By the end of the course students should have an overall awareness of the European juridical culture and should have developed a critical approach to the topics that have been presented

Modalità di insegnamento

The course will be based on reading materials that will be provided, promoting discussion with students. Class participation is stringly recomended

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

Final exam will be oral on webex platform. students will be asked to choose a topic covered in the course and present it for discussion. 1 or 2 further questions will be asked

Programma

This course will focus on the idea of Justice considered as an expression of freedom and equality. According to  the Enlightenment juridical thought, these two principles are fundamental for building a society of peace: we will face them in a critical way, trying to understand what they mean today. And from this point of view, we will investigate the question of legitimacy and the way through which we represent it.
