The course aims at analysing basic principles of private law and in particular, property law, tort law, contract law and the unjust enrichment.

The study will be based on a comparative approach, taking into consideration the historical evolution of private law institutions in both the civil law and the common law tradition.

At the end of the course, students will be able to describe the essential institutions of private law and to solve simple legal problems in the fields analysed.

Lectures.

Class schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-4 p.m.   

Start and end of the course: 20 February - 24 May.                                                                                                              

Oral exam preceded by an admission test. 

The admission test is a computer quiz with 30 multiple choice questions to be answerd in a total of 30 minutes. 

Those who will give at least 18 correct answers will be admitted to the oral exam.

1) Introductory notions of private law

2) Legal Subjects

3) Contract law

4) Tort law

5) Property law

The programme and the study materials are different for attending students and non-attending students.

Attendance in class will the be checked.

and

- slides uploaded on Moodle and notes taken in class

II) Non-attending students:

- P. Sirena, Introduction to Private Law, Il Mulino, third edition (whole book)

and 

- J. Gordley, Foundations of Private Law, Oxford, latest edition (whole book)
