Obiettivi formativi
The theories and practices of anti-discrimination law will be analysed in order to help students to make systematic interpretation of the various sources of law regarding discrimination and to improve the students' proficiency in analyzing judicial cases.

By the end of the course students should have an overall awareness of the multilevel protection from different forms of discrimination and should be able to critically analyse the case-law interpreting the equality principle.

Class participation is strongly encouraged since students will have to read and discuss real cases selected by the lecturer. Besides, public interest lawyers as well as experts of litigation strategies and human rights lobbying will co-teach some classes.

Final exam is written. The evaluation of students attending classes will include active class participation.

Programma
The course will focus on equality law in European countries. Particular attention will be paid to recent developments in the protection of the right to non discrimination on the basis of gender, race, religion, age, disability , sexual orientation and gender identity at the national level with special regard to the implementation of European directives. The course will explore such issues in a range of contexts, including education, employment and voting in the light of most significant domestic constitutional case-law as well as through the European Court of Human Rights and and the Court of Justice of the European Union leading cases. The last part of the course will be dedicated to the role of advocacy, lobbying and litigation strategies in combating discrimination.
