The course aims at enabling the students to know and understand the means through which the European Union takes part in the life of the International Community.

Good knowledge of the essential elements of the internal foundation of the international activity of the EU as well as of the law of international institutions as applies to the EU.

Modalità di insegnamento
The topics included in the programme will be addressed in class in three modules. Module 1 will provide a general overview of the issues on the basis of the relevant legal bases, 'historical' case law and literature. Module 2 will consist of individual oral presentations by the students on recent case law (agreed with the teacher out of a list of decisions). Module 3 will consist of discussions on specific topics with external experts. Students are required to read the relevant materials (which will be available in advance, on the Moodle plaform) prior to each class.

For students attending the course: 25% class participation (preparation of readings, interaction in the discussion); 25% oral presentation; 50% final written exam (open questions).
For students not attending the course: oral examination; knowledge and understanding of the topics will be ascertained with respect to theory and case law, on the basis of the handbook chosen by the student (see recommended readings below).
